Ok already! I get the point. No 6'4 Wide Receiver to throw the ball to. I understand that. Ok! Ok! No veteran Wide Receiver we can rely on either. I see now. O yeah, no mastermind running our defensive schemes anymore. Riiiight! Ahhh man, I almost forgot, our productive back up running back nicknamed "wind" is in calm Tampa. All of these subtracting factors from a team still poised for something special can be dangerous.
When it comes to the 2009 New York Giants, the glass isn't half empty. I see it half..."Giant." Or full if you wanna be technical about it. The number one question waiting to be answered is how the production of the young receiving core will be.
Although the Giants are trying to rebound from losing two key receivers, they make up in numbers what they lack in skill.
Now for defensive coordinators, it's pick your poison. With a combination of two rookies, young up and coming receivers and inexperience, somethings gotta give.
To the Giants credit, lack of experience from their receiving corps comes from lack of timely preparation for the opposition to know what exactly their up against. How can you defend something your not prepared for? You might wanna ask the defensive coordinators during Randy Moss' rookie season. Now I'm not saying rookies Hakim Nicks and Rames Barden are Moss, but two are better than one right? The group is loaded with speed. Hopefully, they can catch too! And with a $97.5 million quarterback throwing them the ball, its safe to assume there will be more catches than drops. Domineck Hixon is the most experienced of the group, and in Plaxico's absence, he was solid to say the least. Steve Smith has evolved into a reliable 3rd down conversion threat. Now here's where the fun begins. Mario Manningham is coming off an injury plagued rookie season and has an extreme upside to him. He possesses pure speed and played in a high profile program at the University of Michigan. Once again, two rookies were college studs and remain to be the wild card of this equation.
The team still has a 12-4 veteran defensive unit, and an 8-8 offense, at worst. The sky is the limit for this group and they have an opportunity to achieve something special for a looooong time to come. So its ok to be a little optimistic and view this cup as "Half Giant!"
