To say Sunday's win over the Buffalo Bills was a huge move forward in leaving behind a disappointing Tennessee Titans season for the state of Tennessee, the fans, staff and administration is an understatement. Defeating Buffalo Bills owner during a legacy game on the anniversary of the AFL was so emotional for 86 year old Titans owner, Bud Adams that he celebrated the victory in the most gentleman of fashions -- by flicking off Bills fans with not one middle finger but two with balls of brazen steel for all those with a view of his luxury box to see. An observant fan caught Adams on film giving fans the "obscene" gesture that later cost him $250,000 large ones he undoubtedly won't miss yet nonetheless was apologetic for.
"I need to apologize for my actions yesterday near the end of the game. I got caught up in the excitement of a great day, but I do realize that those types of things shouldn't happen. I need to specifically apologize to the Bills, their fans, our fans and the NFL. I obviously have a great deal of respect for [Bills owner] Ralph Wilson and the history we have shared. I also understand there will probably be league discipline for my actions and I will accept those."
Caught up in the moment indeed. Although, Adams joins other owners and coaches in the "NFL Owners/Coaches Gone Bad" club with alumni Patriots coach, Bill Belichick, ex NY Jets, Cleveland Browns coach Eric Mangini to name a few and fines in the excess of $1.75 million. While it certainly a display of professionalism befitting a team owner of one of the most coveted sports' leagues in the nation, it can't be any more damaging to the reputation of the Titans organization than the embarrassing practice sessions it has been passing off as games for six of the teams' losses thus far this season.
Warning: The footage below might be too graphic for young viewers. While Titans players deem it cool and Bills players give the gesture their seal of approval, Bud Adams knobby skeleton fingers flipping the bird in rapid motion has been known to induce nausea. Viewer discretion is advised.
